Every Child Our Future

Every Child Our Future began in 2016 with volunteers delivering reading sessions in schools. We have now expanded this range of volunteer-delivered programmes to include reading with Nursery children and providing reading sessions at Jersey Library. Alongside this we have also developed and implemented a number of pilot projects focussing on early speech and language, tutoring and summer reading. In 2022 we were instrumental in the launch of Inspiring the Future Jersey.

Every Child Our Future works in partnership with schools, the Government of Jersey, the Education Department and Jersey Library, to enhance the existing provision of our island’s non-fee paying schools. We believe that every child has a right to the best possible education, and through our guiding principles aim to ensure that all children leave primary school with the widest range of opportunities available to them, so that their future is full of potential and possibility.

We know that Jersey’s children come from a diverse range of backgrounds and that not every child has the same opportunities. Because of this we focus our efforts on those with the most need and where the greatest impact can be made.

Our Principles

Every Child Our Future supports children in Jersey with the educational foundations they need to thrive. We are guided by the following principles:

We believe that intervening early in a child’s life has the biggest impact.

We work in partnership with schools, government, community volunteers, corporate partners, and other organisations to deliver support to children.

We strive to develop interventions which will have enduring impact. For this reason, we adopt an evidence based approach, piloting programmes and developing them in collaboration with schools and the Government in the hope and expectation that they will embed such programmes as part of school life.

We believe that every child should have the same opportunities in life. We therefore focus our efforts on those with the greatest need.

We focus on building the foundations of children’s learning. For this reason, our programmes include supporting the foundations of language, literacy and numeracy skills, the building blocks of education.

Once again may I take this opportunity to thank you for all your time and dedication to our children. They really do love seeing you each week and gain so much from the time you are able to give them. Try as I might, we just cant do this. For some children the progress is slower than others in terms of their reading, but they are all making progress. They have all grown in confidence in talking about books and developing their vocabulary skills thanks to the time they have with you.
