We are seeking warm, enthusiastic Toddler Tales Volunteers to read with nursery-aged children (2–3 years) in early years settings across Jersey. By giving just one hour each week, you’ll help introduce toddlers to the joy of stories and support the foundations of their early literacy development.

Location: Nursery and Early Years Settings Across Jersey

Commitment: One hour per week, minimum one-year commitment

Key Responsibilities:
  • Share engaging, age-appropriate stories with 2–3-year-olds in an early years setting using story sacks—filled with books, props, and resources—which will be provided by Every Child.
  • Use expression, gestures, and simple interaction to bring stories to life for toddlers.
  • Create a warm, calm, and joyful atmosphere that gently nurtures early curiosity and a love of books.
  • Encourage children’s engagement through simple questions, actions, and playful participation.
  • Work collaboratively with early years staff to support the needs and routines of the children.
  • Follow safeguarding policies and maintain a child-centred, supportive approach at all times.

 

Skills & Requirements:
  • A love of books — especially children’s literature — and a passion for storytelling with young children.
  • Experience engaging with toddlers or young children (e.g., parenting, teaching, caregiving, or volunteering) is beneficial.
  • Ability to create an engaging, calm, and interactive storytelling experience for 2–3-year-olds.
  • Friendly, patient, and approachable, with strong communication skills.
  • Availability to volunteer for one hour each week for at least one year.
  • Enhanced DBS check (support available to obtain this).
