We are looking for enthusiastic Book Buddies to read with Year 3 pupils (ages 7-8) in the Jersey Library after school at 3pm. This role is all about inspiring a love of reading through shared reading sessions, helping children explore stories, develop confidence, and enjoy the magic of books.

Location:  Jersey Library

Commitment: Term time, for 10 weeks at a time for one hour per week

 

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead one to one reading for pleasure session with a year 3 pupil in the Jersey library
  • Reading for pleasure and engaging children with stories
  • Create a warm, engaging, and interactive reading experience for the children.
  • Encourage children to participate, ask questions, and connect with the story.
  • Choose age-appropriate and engaging books from the library collection or collaborate with Every Child and  library staff to find suitable options.
  • Create a relaxed and supportive environment where children feel comfortable and excited about reading.
  • Adhere to safeguarding policies and maintain a child-friendly approach at all times.
  • Engage with parents when children are collected
  • Work in partnership with Every Child and Jersey Library staff

 

Skills & Requirements:
  • A love of books and a passion for inspiring children to read for pleasure.
  • Friendly, patient, and enthusiastic, with the ability to engage young children.
  • Experience of reading to or engaging with children.
  • Good communication skills and an encouraging, supportive approach.
  • Friendly, patient, and approachable demeanor, with a passion for working with children.
  • Enhanced DBS check (we can support you in obtaining this).
  • Reliability and punctuality to honor agreed session times.
  • Enhanced DBS (we can help you with the administration of this)
