Volunteer With Us
We are looking for volunteers who want to help children make the most of the opportunities that school provides, but this doesn’t necessarily mean working in schools with children.
School and library-based volunteers do make up the majority of our volunteer team, but you could also offer your professional skills and experiences to support our operations and administration.
Volunteers working within schools or the library receive our highly-rated training and ongoing support for the programme they enrol with. These volunteers provide children with quality one to one time each week, focussing on either reading or basic numeracy skills. We believe that to be fully effective there needs to be consistency and commitment – there is huge benefit to be had, for both children and volunteers, from investing in relationships over time. The minimum commitment for this is one term. You don’t need to have any specific skillset or be a trained teacher, you just need a good standard of English or Numeracy, and a passion to help children grow in confidence and progress in their learning.
We would also love to hear from you if you have time and specific skills to offer which would support the work we do behind the scenes to provide children with these opportunities. Administration, marketing and social media, and practical project support is just as valuable to us as a charity, to enable us to meet our ambitious objectives.

“It’s so lovely reading with and listening, to the children each week. Seeing them get excited about books in a world where they have lots of other distractions is great.”
